16 days of activism 2025: We UNiTE to Uphold Human Rights.

GBV2x

10th December 2025

Each year, from 25 November to 10 December, the world marks the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence (GBV), a global campaign that unites individuals, communities, and institutions in the commitment to end violence in all its forms.

At EPK, this period serves as an important reminder to keep our efforts to protecting dignity, promoting safety, and upholding the rights of every person across our value chain.

Our efforts to prevent and address Gender-Based Violence and Harassment (GBVH) remain firmly grounded in the policies, structures, and due diligence processes we continue to develop and strengthen over time.

EPK was honoured to contribute to the development of the Gender Action in Agriculture (GAIA) Principles under the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI), which guide ethical, gender-responsive conduct across agricultural value chains and reinforce our commitment to fairness, safety, and equality. Our approach is further guided by globally recognised frameworks, including the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) and the UN Global Compact Principles on Human Rights, Labour, Environment, and Anti-Corruption, with governance woven throughout to shape how we assess risks, prevent harm, and respond to concerns across our operations.

Central to our accountability is our Operational Grievance Mechanism, locally known as “Tweguu Akase” in Nandi, meaning “Talk to me, I’m Listening”, which provides employees, contractors, out-growers, and community members with a safe and accessible way to raise concerns and seek resolution. Developed through extensive stakeholder engagement, Tweguu Akase incorporates feedback from employees and communities, aligns with the UNGPs, and meets accreditation standards such as those of the Rainforest Alliance, of which EPK is a member.

Supporting this framework is our network of Human Rights Champions, who play a vital role in fostering safe, respectful workplaces, guiding colleagues on their rights, and cultivating a culture where dignity and fairness are protected every day.

Through these efforts, we advance SDG 5: Gender Equality, working to build safe, inclusive, and equitable environments where everyone can thrive without fear of discrimination or violence.

These systems work together to strengthen accountability and safeguard dignity at all levels of our operations.

As the 16 Days campaign concludes, our commitment continues. Ending GBVH requires sustained, collective effort, from individuals, organisations, and communities alike. EPK remains steadfast in upholding zero tolerance approach to harassment, exploitation, or abuse, while empowering all who work with us to speak up, seek support, and thrive in safe spaces.
