EPK launches Gender-Based Violence and Mental Health Clinic

Nandi 22nd May 2026. Eastern Produce Kenya (EPK), in partnership with Taylors of Harrogate and Infre, and the County Government of Nandi, has officially launched a Gender-Based Violence and Mental Health (GBVMH) Clinic at the Nandi Hills County Hospital.

The facility is the first integrated centre in the region, designed to provide survivors of gender-based violence with dignified, coordinated and comprehensive care within a single safe environment.

The clinic complements the existing GBV Gender Desk built and equipped by EPK at the Nandi Hills Police Station, strengthening the reporting and referral systems for survivors and improving coordination between healthcare providers, law enforcement officers, counsellors and social workers.

Speaking during the ceremony, EPK Operations Director Noel Lindsay-Smith said the clinic reflects a shared commitment to community wellbeing, dignity and protection and recovery of survivors.

“Gender-based violence is not only a health issue; it is a human right and community issue. Survivors deserve spaces that protect their dignity, safeguard their privacy, and support their healing journey in a holistic way. This clinic was designed with that in mind. It will help create an environment where survivors are less likely to feel alone, ashamed or unsupported when seeking help.”

The clinic comprises of consultation rooms, counselling and therapy spaces, male and female observation rooms, child-friendly support areas, a reception and referral coordination unit, and integrated systems to support case documentation and follow-up.

Mental health services have been fully integrated into the model of care recognising the significant emotional and psychological impact that is often associated with gender-based violence.

Victims and survivors are encouraged to seek help by dialing 1195, a County Gender Based Violence Coordinator will receive the complaint and will support with reporting, referrals and case management to assist survivors receive timely and continuous care.

The County Government of Nandi welcomed the partnership, noting that coordinated action between public institutions and private sector stakeholders is essential in addressing the growing burden of gender-based violence and mental health challenges across communities.

“This facility demonstrates the power of partnership between government, private sector and community stakeholders in strengthening our health and social support systems. Gender-based violence and mental health challenges require coordinated responses, and this centre brings these services closer to the people who need them most,” said Dr. Francis Sang, County Secretary, Nandi County.

The launch comes at a time when Kenya continues to intensify national conversations around the urgent need for stronger prevention, survivor protection systems and multi-sectoral responses to GBV and femicide.
